OPS SEAFIELD: CONDUCT QUALITY INVESTIGATION, POLICE REMINDED
SENATOR DATUK T.MOHAN
MIC VICE PRESIDENT

Kuala Lumpur, Des.6-
Since the clash took place on November 26, the police have been making continuous arrest on certain individuals believed to be involved at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Putra Heights.

MIC have learnt that there are individuals were called in by the police
then abruptly detained without giving proper reason.

There are also individuals who came forward to assist in the police probe were detained.

Those individuals arrested by the police were present as devotees or supporters during the incident.

Even there are Malay individuals not involved in the incident were arrested by the police. They were victims of the investigation whereby their vehicles were used by different perpetrators during the temple attack.

In witnessing the unfair investigation conducted by the police, MIC Legal Bureau acted in a pro-bono basis to those arrested linked to the temple incident.

From our observation, the police have been arresting those individuals identifying  from
photos and videos circulated by irresponsible parties in the social media during the previous temple demonstration which took place three months back.

These individuals who became police victim were present during that time as temple devotees defending the relocation of the temple in a peaceful manner.

However, today some of them became the victim of police investigation wrongly linked to the temple incident which took place on November 26.

Arresting the individuals unfairly have created unnecessary problem for their family.

Family members were not informed about their detention and the right to access a lawyer was not given initially to the individuals detained by the police.

There are even individuals arrested by the police were not able to inform their employers, some fearing losing jobs.

The police should probe thoroughly and ensure an quality investigation. Merely arresting and increasing its number will defeat its purpose.

am afraid that the police are hastily completing its probe to show the public its doing a good job.

I hope this statement will be a reminder to the police to conduct a fair and just investigation.

Please stop victimising the innocent individuals who is willing to assist the investigation. If needed, MIC is always ready to assist the individuals and to co-operate with the police to conduct a fair probe.
